About Diwali Festival

Hello friends and my well wishersfirst all of Happy Diwali and Advance Happy New Year.Today 30th October.Today we celebrate Diwali festival.Diwali festival or Dipavali Festival is "festival of Light".Diwali is last day of Gujarati Vikram Samvat year.Diwali is celebrated on a new moon night sometime in the months of October and November. The festival is celebrated with lighting oil lamps, known as diyas, and candles, along with fireworks displays.Diwali is the five-day Festival of Lights and is traditionally celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains and is one of the most significant festivals in the Indian culture. The day is primarily celebrated to commemorate the return of Lord Rama from his fourteen years of exile. However, there are various other stories associated with the festival.
According to other legend, Pandavas from the Mahabharata returned to their homeland after Thirteen years and the day is celebrated to commemorate their return. The Sikhs celebrate this day to mark the day of freedom or the day when their Guru, Guru Hargobind got free from the jail. The Jains celebrate this day as they believe that Lord Mahavira attained enlightenment on this day. There are still other theories associated with Diwali such as the rising of Goddess Lakshmi from the sea, the killing of Narkasura by Lord Vishnu and birth of Goddess Kali.

For many Indians, Diwali honours Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and people will start the new business year at Diwali and some will say prayers to the goddess for a prosperous year ahead.

Five Days of Diwali

On the first day of Diwali, people consider it auspicious to spring clean the home and shop for gold or kitchen utensils.
On the second day, people decorate their homes with clay lamps and create design patterns called rangoli on the floor using colored powders or sand.
The third day is the main day of the festival when families gather together for Lakshmi puja, a prayer to Goddess Lakshmi followed by mouth-watering feasts and firework festivities.
The fourth day is the first day of the new year when friends and relatives visit with gifts and best wishes for the season.
On the last day of Diwali, brothers visit their married sisters who welcome them with love and a lavish meal.
