Maha Shivratri Celebration in Lord Shiva JyotirlingaTemples

According to hindu Gujarati calendar , Maha Shivratri is celebrated every year on the 12th night or 14th day of the Maagha or phalgun month and according to Georgian calendar it comes in February-March month . The festival isdedicated to Lord Shiva.Maha Shivratri is the grand night festival of Lord shiva.The Hindu rises early in the morning and bathes in sacred rivers like Ganges and worship lord Shiva with Hindu traditions. Abhisheka of God Shiv is done with cold water, milk and Panchamrita, also offerings of Bael (Bilva) leaves. A special drink called bhang or Thandai specially drink during the holi and Maha shivaratri, mixed in with spices, milk, cannabis flowers and sugar. 

This auspicious day is believed to be the day of convergence of divine powers of Lord Shiva and Goddess Shakti. It is believed that on this day the planetary position in universe evokes the spiritual energies very easily. Religious penances are carried out to gain boons through the practice of medication and yoga. People worships lord Shiva whole day and chants "Om Namah Shivay". Some devotees also perform Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra to seek divine blessings of Lord Shiva.
